Happy Packages Phase 2

The original Happy Packages concept (supported through Media Sandbox), was all about delivering content to mobile handsets at specific locations. We explored different types of content (Whats-on listings, videos, images etc), different technologies (Bluetooth, GPS and SMS) and the different relationships the user might have with the distributors of the content. It turned out the best thing about it was a feature that allowed friends to create treasure trails for each other and send them to GPS enabled devices. The worst thing was that it was really fiddly to distribute the software and not many mobile phones come with GPS as standard.

Phase 2 is an extension of the same concept with one crucial difference - we are developing the software on the iPhone. The benefits are obvious - an internationally standardised platform, intuitive touch screen interface, bigger screen, GPS as standard and many more. We've also introduced a 'Channels' concept which allows users to categorise their trails and follow them one by one, simultaneously or as part of an organised event. It also allows us to deliver sponsored content to particular channels such as Sport or Cultural Events.

Herein we document the trials and tribulations the team face as they attempt to take this product to market...
